I toil away at ORCS! The Gift issue 4 right now, but here's a fun thing I did in between issues...
Last month, after I finished ORCS! The Gift issue 3, I took a workshop on riso printing at the Soapbox Community Printshop in west Philly (check them out! They are awesome). I've been meaning to get into Risograph Printing for a while. I come from a screen printing background, which is a pretty clean 1 to 1 in terms of designing and setting up art
I wish I took more actual process photos. I'm terrible when it comes to documenting my work when I'm away from my desk. You get caught up in conversations with other people and wrapped up in the process of making and before you know it, you're done and on your way home!
But I did photograph my original ink drawings (once I was home). I did these on Canson marker layout paper and scanned them directly into the machine, old school. Even though they had a computer on site, I wanted to set this up the way I used to do painted screen prints back in college.
No, I couldn't draw directly onto a screen or acetate, but I could directly scan some art and make manual corrections. I felt like that was a good way to get my head around how the risograph actually functioned.
It was a really fun workshop, and I bagged about 20 prints. Some of those went to friends and family, while the remainder will be sold at shows. This was such a fun and informative workshop!
